Pembroke Pines Optimist Soccer

Recreational Soccer Program

Updated 01/26/2020

Recreational soccer registration has concluded for this season.   Recreational runs from November into March each year.

Open tryouts for travel soccer will be coming up in mid May, 2020.

Welcome to the Pembroke Pines Optimist Club recreational soccer program!

We offer a Volunteer driven not-for-profit soccer program serving Pembroke Pines, and surrounding areas. Our fields and clubhouse is located at 7400 Pines Blvd (just East of University Drive). We have apx 600 boys and girls who play on teams ranging in age from 4 years old to 18 (if your child is now still 3, we can accept if born in the year 2015).  The games are held on one of our six soccer fields, and at other local parks that are affiliated with our club. We are affiliated with the Greater Hollywood Soccer League (Recreational play), and also have travel (competitive) teams playing in South Florida United.

The season runs from the middle of November through mid March, with no games scheduled while school is out during the Christmas holiday break (Practice will start in the middle of November, and actual games will begin early December).  Uniforms will be passed out right before games begin, in early December.

Our U6  co-ed teams will have all practices and games in-house only (they do not travel).  All U6 games and practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 6:00 pm.

Starting at U8 and older, we will have separate teams for boys and girls.  Our U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18 teams will practice at least 2 evenings per week, after 6:00 pm.  Each team will be scheduled for at least one game per week, and have approximately 10 games during the season. U8 - U14  games are often played on weekends (mostly Saturday).  U16 and U19 teams will often play games Friday nights (U14 girls MAY play Friday nights as well).  All U8 - U19 teams will travel to other local parks for some games, and play in the Greater Hollywood Soccer league.  We are sorry we can not specify your actual practice nights, as they will be set by the coaches.  However, we often have multiple teams in each division, and will do our best to work with parents that need specific nights.  Game times on weekends are set by the league, and we have no way to tell you in advance when they will be.  Kick off times will vary each weekend.
Pricing Registration (Recreational) is $170 per child living in Pembroke Pines, check (payable to PPO), cash or credit card. The fee for non residents of Pembroke Pines is $265. We realize the out-of-city fee ($95) effects many of our players. In order to off set these fees, out-of-city players (ONLY) will be given raffle tickets to sell, allowing the player to re-coup the entire fee (you will keep the money you raise). If you register as an out-of-city player online, you may come by to pick up the raffle books at a later date. Drawing will be held in January, 2020.
Siblings will receive a $20 discount, starting with the cost of the second child. Registration covers all the cost of uniforms, equipment, referee fees, our big year end party, and registration with the Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA).

If parent or guardian is active in the US military, or an employee of the City of Pembroke Pines, you might be exempt from some fees (including the out of city fees) and receive a discount.  Please bring proof and register in person (not on line).

You are responsible for providing shin-guards and soccer cleats for the child, as well as a soccer ball.   All players are FYSA registered.
Registration is available online using a credit or debit card. Soccer administrators are available at the clubhouse for in person registration (starting September 19, 2019) on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00AM to Noon.
All NEW players (or those that played in the U6 division last season) must also bring a COPY of a birth certificate or passport for age verification. ALL PLAYERS need to bring a passport sized photo of the child (closeup of face).  FYSA cleared out ALL photos, so EVERYONE will need a new one this year.   If you live in Pembroke Pines, please bring a form of identification or utility bill to prove residency. Bring your soccer players with you, so they can be sized for a uniform! If you are registering online, you will be given instructions on emailing us this information, or may drop it off at the clubhouse at a normal registration session.
Please make sure the child's name is on all items you bring/send to us. Returned checks are subject to a $30.00 service charge and must be replaced with cash.
Refunds, minus costs incurred, may be given prior to December 1st, 2019.  After this date there are no refunds issued for ANY reason.

WE NEED COACHES! Get involved with this exciting program and at the same time help out the youth of our community. We also need support staff ... please get involved!!

Recreational (Piranhas) vs. Competitive (Heat Strikers) Soccer:

Almost all teams that play for PPO do "travel."  This means half of your games are played in our park, while half are also played at other local parks affiliated with our club.  Most of our teams are "Recreational" and will participate in the Greater Hollywood Soccer league.  No tryouts are held, and the program runs from mid November to mid March.  One benefit of playing for PPO is that even our recreational players, who make up apx 70% of our participants, will get to experience the feel of "travel" soccer due to our being part of the Greater Hollywood Soccer League.

Our "Competitive" program is for the serious soccer player.  Most boy's and girl's travel teams play in the South Florida United league.  Compared to our normal recreational program, competitive player commitment must be higher, training harder, and the financial costs are greater.  Teams will practice year long.  In addition to league games, tournaments will be attended. Tryouts are required to get on a competitive team.  Player development is DEMANDED, and play time must be EARNED.  Being on a competitive team is a big step above our normal recreational program, but is not right for all children.

To learn about the competitive program, click the "competitive tab" on the top of this page.  If you want a tryout, email us your child's name, gender, and date of birth.  [email protected]
